The 2026 XPeng X9 Is Not Your Average People Mover

Let’s be honest, people movers have never exactly been the car you buy because you fell in love with it.

They’re practical. They fit the kids, the bags and everything else that somehow comes along for the ride. But exciting? Not usually.

The 2026 XPeng X9 is here to change that.

Fully electric, seriously spacious and packed with features you’d expect to find in a luxury car, the X9 makes a pretty convincing case that the family car can actually be the one you want to drive.

And there’s a good chance the best seats aren’t actually in the front.

The Best Seats Might Be in the Back

Open the sliding doors and you’ll quickly see where the X9 starts showing off.

The second row features two individual Nappa leather captain’s chairs with 14-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and six massage programs.

There are also electric ottomans, and the seats can recline into a zero-gravity position.

It’s a level of comfort you don’t usually associate with the second row of a people mover, and one that could make passengers pretty happy to sit in the back.

There’s also a huge 21.4-inch fold-down entertainment screen, dual fold-out tray tables, wireless phone charging throughout the cabin and a 1,552-watt sound system.

Long road trips suddenly sound a little more appealing.

It’s Got the Range to Match

Of course, a comfortable cabin is only part of the equation when you’re going fully electric.

The FWD Standard Range offers up to 535 km of WLTP driving range, while the AWD Performance takes that up to 580 km.

That gives you plenty of range for the daily commute, school runs and weekend driving around South East Queensland.

Charging Is Pretty Quick Too

The X9 is built on an 800-volt platform, with the AWD Performance capable of DC fast charging at up to 542 kW.

Under ideal conditions, XPeng claims it can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in around 12 minutes. Actual charging times will depend on the charger and conditions, but it’s an impressive figure for a vehicle of this size.

For everyday driving, owners with a home charger can simply plug in overnight and be ready to go the next morning.

Yes, a People Mover Can Be Quick

Seven seats and performance don’t usually go hand in hand, but the AWD Performance is surprisingly quick.

With dual electric motors producing 370 kW, it can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds.

Not that anyone needs to do 0 to 100 km/h in under six seconds on the school run, but it’s nice to know you can.

Air suspension is standard across both variants, helping keep things smooth and comfortable, while the AWD Performance also gets rear-wheel steering to make manoeuvring a vehicle of this size easier.

Big Car, Plenty of Space

At more than 5.3 metres long, the X9 is definitely not small.

But all that size means there’s plenty of room inside. You get seven seats across three rows, a flat cabin floor and wide sliding doors that make getting everyone in and out that little bit easier.

It has all the practicality you’d expect from a family mover, just with a much longer list of creature comforts.

So, How Much Is It?

The 2026 XPeng X9 FWD Standard Range starts from $89,900 plus on-road costs, while the AWD Performance is priced from $109,900 plus on-road costs.

That puts the X9 at the premium end of the people mover market, but you’re also getting a lot more than just seven seats.
